| Carr Park |
 |
Carr Park is located on Lewis Avenue,
north of Temperance Road in Temperance, Michigan. The property was
originally deeded to the Upton Carr family by President Andrew Jackson
in the 1830's. It subsequently was sold by the Carr Family to the
Temperance Rotary Club to be designated as a park.
A six acre parcel of ground, Carr Park is a popular playground and
recreational facility for children, residents and visitors of Bedford
Township. In addition to various children's playground equipment, it
features permanent grills, benches, picnic tables, and an over-hang
shelter housing additional picnic tables. The park has a basketball
court, two volleyball courts, two tennis courts and a ball diamond. It
is used as one of the park sites in the Bedford Community Education
Summer's Park Program. |
| Carr Community Center |
Carr Community Center, adjoining Carr
Park, has a meeting/recreational room with kitchen and restroom
facilities. Originally known as the "Rotary Club," it was
built by Temperance Rotarians and used as the meeting location for the
Rotary Club. Later ownership was transferred to the Bedford Township.
With the assistance of State of Michigan grant monies, Carr Community
Center recently had interior renovation, roof replacement and parking
lot improvements.
It is a facility very much in use, providing a location for
organizational activities, and family and social events. For rental
information, contact Garnet Francis at
