Library Building Expansion
Millage Proposal
A millage proposal (up to 0.75 mills for 10 years) for the expansion of the Bedford Township Library Building expansion will be on the August 6, 2002 ballot. If the proposal passes, the Bedford Township Library Building will be doubled in size.

Is This Space Needed?
The Bedford Township Library Building is owned by Bedford Township, not the county library system. Expansion of the building is at the expense of Bedford Township citizens. The county provides the books and people to operate the Bedford Township Library Building. The space in the Building is being used to full advantage now and additional needs are apparent. The added space will make it possible for the Bedford Township Library to:
  • 1. increase its book selection for patrons;
  • 2. increase its on site CD collection;
  • 3. increase its audio and video selection; and,
  • 4. increase its research reference section, including computer stations.
In addition, the Children's Section in the building would be enlarged. Increased space would be dedicated to computer stations for word processing and internet usage. For adults and school age students, more chairs and tables would be added providing more space for reading, research and study. Space for township clubs and organizations to meet is projected in the expansion. Additional space for important historical items of the township is projected. The Library offers many special interest seminars and programs for its patrons. With the proposed addition and realignment of use, general library patrons would not be disturbed when seminars and programs are being presented.

What Would The Money Be Used For?
The millage will support more than just the expansion of the building. Money from the millage would be used to rework the existing building to accommodate the expansion and to remedy some problems in the electrical and plumbing systems. A new air conditioning and heating system will be required for the current building and the expanded area. New lights, chairs, tables, shelving, rest rooms and carpeting for the building will be needed. Money from the millage would be used to provide these items.

If This Millage Passes, What Will It Cost Me?
If you own a home with a market value of $100,000, the tax increase would be $37.50 per year, or less.

How Long Would This Expansion Cover Bedford's Growth?
This expansion should cover the next 20 year's growth in Bedford Township, based on current projections.
