Building permits must be applied
for through the Township Building Department. They are required for the
primary purpose of ensuring that setback requirements are met (see
schedule of regulations 400.1800), as well as the integrity of the
structure must also follow the 2003 Michigan Building
Code (Effective February 29, 2004). The Township Zoning Office reviews applications
for building permits by inspecting setbacks, height, etc. At the same
time construction drawings are reviewed by the Building Official.
Applications of a general nature (needing no special approval), do not
require further review by the Planning Commission.
General Information Required from the Applicant:
1. All corners of proposed construction need to be clearly marked
(including property pins) for the purpose of site inspection.
2. Building and plot plans drawn to scale showing location of
structures in relation to subject parcel and adjoining properties.
3. Name and address of contractor.
4. Location of parcel within township quarter section or closest
intersection.
5. Name of subdivision (if applicable), block, lot, parcel number,
flood-plain status and current zoning district.
6. Soil erosion and sedimentation control permit from the Monroe
County Drain Commission.
7. Proposed type of construction or development.
8. Dimensions of structure including height.
9. Setback distances clearly marked from property lines.
10. Occupancy use.
11. Estimated cost.
How long will it take to process my building application?
- Expect 7 - 10 working days for the application to be processed
depending on the preparedness of the applicant and office work load.
- Applicants should be aware of frost laws (weight limit embargoes)
designated by the Monroe County Road Department on certain county
roads during the springtime which prohibit the use of heavy
construction vehicles.
